Spain Copa del Rey: Spain's cup where the underdog plays at home
Spain Copa del Rey is the Copa del Rey, the knockout cup of Spanish football organised by the RFEF, the country's royal federation. Its 123rd edition, 2026-27, brings together 116 clubs. Up to the quarter-finals inclusive, one game decides each round, hosted by the club from the lower tier; when both sides come from the same tier, the club drawn first hosts. The road ends on Saturday 24 April 2027 at Estadio La Cartuja in Seville, the neutral venue the RFEF has booked for three finals running, 2026, 2027 and 2028.
Who enters, and when
Between 26 September and 4 October 2026, 20 regional clubs played a two-legged preliminary round for the 10 remaining places in the first round, which then featured 112 clubs in 56 ties: the 16 top-flight clubs not involved in the Supercopa, the Segunda División sides and the lower divisions. The Supercopa de España quartet (Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Real Sociedad, Atlético de Madrid) only joins in the round of 32.
