Italy. Serie A 2026/27: Inter's title defence, followed from Djibouti
Serie A is the top division of Italian club football. The 2026/27 campaign is the 125th season of the Italian top flight and the 95th played in league form: each of the twenty clubs plays every other one twice, on its own ground and on the road, for a total of 38 rounds and 380 matches, and the club heading the table after the last round is champion of Italy. The clubs finishing 18th, 19th and 20th drop into Serie B, replaced by three clubs from Serie B.
Inter Milan go into the season as holders. With Cristian Chivu as head coach they took the 2025/26 championship, the club's 21st Scudetto, and made it certain on 3 May 2026 with three rounds to spare, beating Parma 2:0 at San Siro through Marcus Thuram (45+1') and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (80'). Inter finished on 87 points, 11 clear of Napoli (76) and ahead of Roma (73), Como (71) and AC Milan (70). Lautaro Martínez was the league's top scorer for the second time in his career, with 17 goals in 30 games; Federico Dimarco was voted player of the season and Chivu coach of the season.
How the 2026/27 table is settled 📋
The fixture list was presented on 5 June 2026 at the Teatro Regio in Parma, during the third Serie A Festival. It is asymmetric: the second half of the season does not repeat the order of the first, and at least eight rounds separate the two meetings between any pair of clubs. Venezia, Frosinone and Monza are the newcomers, replacing Cremonese, Hellas Verona and Pisa. When clubs end the season level on points, the table separates them in this order:

The regulations add an exception at both ends of the table: a tie on points for first place is settled by a one-off play-off, and a tie for 17th, the last place that keeps a club up, by two matches, unless a UEFA finalist is involved. The top four reach the league phase of the 2027/28 Champions League. Fifth place and the 2026/27 Coppa Italia winner go into the Europa League, with sixth taking that second ticket if the cup winner already sits in the top five; sixth, or seventh after such a shift, enters the Conference League at the play-off round.
Breaks, midweek rounds and the derby calendar 📅
Round 1 was played on 22–23 August 2026, with the champions at home to promoted Monza, and the final round is set for the weekend of 29–30 May 2027. The league stops for national teams from 21 September until 6 October 2026, an extended break, then from 9 to 17 November 2026 and from 22 to 30 March 2027. Two rounds fall in midweek, round 9 on 28 October 2026 and round 18 on 6 January 2027, at Epiphany, and Christmas brings a pause on 26–27 December.
Italy is on summer time (UTC+2) until late October and from late March, and on UTC+1 in between, while Djibouti's clock is fixed at UTC+3, so the local clock runs one hour ahead of Italy's at the start and the end of the season and two hours ahead through the winter. On the Djibouti clock, every derby from the Milan meeting in November to its return in February falls in the two-hour stretch, while the April and May dates come back to a one-hour gap. Round 10 also has Juventus against Napoli, and round 19 adds Roma against AC Milan. Inter and AC Milan share San Siro, also known as the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, and Roma and Lazio share the Stadio Olimpico, so in Milan and in Rome only the fixture list decides who counts as the home side.
